There are many German companies here in Georgia and add a multiplier for the number of German-speaking residents. Finally a Christkindlmarkt has surfaced! This year for the first time we have a good start to a growing project. My daughter, living in Edinburgh, Scotland, reported to me several years ago that they have a Christkindlmarkt there. I was envious, having resided in Germany and Austria for so many years and enjoying the tradition, even trekking to Nuremberg once to experience “the most famous of them all”.
Feeling a kindred spirit to a post I recently read about experiencing Paris for the first time, celebrations brought to the U.S. , as expatriates and those identifying with them, all us to reminisce and have a taste of what we cannot experience authentically, while enjoying the customs of our “new home” while incorporating those that are left behind.
